On September 2, we were pleased to welcome 44 students of our eight Master of Data Science (MDS) cohort to the beautiful UBC Okanagan campus. Speakers from the Global Engagement Office, the MDS career advisor, and our program directors joined us for a full-day orientation held before the start of the term. The event helped students get off on the right foot by introducing them to the program and ensuring they had the necessary software before classes began. This year, our cohort is comprised of the following:
This year, our cohort is comprised of the following:
- 16 domestic and 28 international students from countries such as Canada, China, India, Bangladesh, Thailand and United States of America.
- 14 females and 30 males
- Academic backgrounds such as computer science, engineering, data science, finance, business, information management, statistics, economics and mathematics
- 9 students who had already completed a Master’s degree, and some had more than one degree.
- 86% of students completed their last degree in the past 5 years, and 36% just graduated in 2025.
- Students in the age range of 21-39 years and an average age of 26 years.
We are looking forward to a great year with this cohort.
